UNODC Administrative and Finance Officer: Temporary P-4 Opportunity in Nairobi

UNODC has advertised a temporary Administrative and Finance Officer position in Nairobi, Kenya. The P-4 role supports the Regional Office for Eastern Africa and is intended for experienced administration and finance professionals.

Vacancy overview

Organisation United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
Duty station Nairobi, Kenya
Grade P-4
Job opening 285094
Contract Temporary; reproduced notice states 364 days
Deadline 4 October 2026, as listed by UN Careers; check the portal for the exact cutoff

Experience and qualifications

The reproduced vacancy requires at least seven years of progressively responsible administration and finance experience, including team supervision and performance management. An advanced degree in finance, accounting or a related field is requested; a relevant first degree plus additional qualifying experience may be accepted.

The work covers budgets, internal controls, procurement, human resources and operational support. ERP experience such as SAP/Umoja is desirable. English is required. These requirements should be checked against the full official notice before submission.

Build an evidence-based application

Choose examples that show the scale of your responsibility and your own decisions. Explain how you monitored a budget, resolved a control weakness, supervised a team or improved an administrative process. Where you use numbers, make sure they are accurate and can be substantiated.

Distinguish managing a process from contributing to one. A clear description of your authority, reporting relationships and actions is more useful than an inflated job summary. Do not include confidential budgets, personnel records or internal documents as supporting examples.

Check the temporary conditions

Read the appointment conditions carefully and ask about any restrictions relevant to your current employment or contract status. A temporary assignment should not be interpreted as a promise of a continuing appointment.

The deadline is close. Review your employment dates, education and screening answers for consistency, and allow time to complete the official system’s required fields.
