How to present communications experience
This is editorial preparation advice. Select examples that show both the quality of your work and the practical process behind it. Explain the audience, the communication objective, your responsibilities, the format you chose and the outcome. A clear newsletter, event information pack or short research summary may be more relevant than a large portfolio with no explanation of your contribution.
Where you discuss analytics, distinguish reach from meaningful engagement. Identify the measurement period and avoid suggesting that a communications activity alone caused an outcome that depended on a wider team. If you worked in more than one language, describe the level and type of work accurately.
Only share samples that you own or have permission to disclose. Remove confidential contact lists, personal information and unpublished internal material. If an application does not request a portfolio attachment, follow its instructions rather than uploading unnecessary files.
Practical checks before applying
Review your graduation date against the placement start date rather than the application deadline. Consider whether the full placement fits your study or other commitments. Confirm your work-authorisation position before investing in relocation plans.
A gross monthly figure is not the same as take-home income. Build a personal budget for housing, transport and other living expenses without assuming additional benefits that the advert does not state. Keep a copy of the submitted application and its confirmation.
