Overview
The Huntington is accepting applications for its 2027–28 long-term research fellowships. A nine-month academic-year award carries a US$50,000 stipend; a four-to-five-month academic-term award provides US$25,000.
Research and eligibility
Applicants may be of any nationality, but must have completed all PhD requirements, including a successful dissertation defence, by the application deadline. The humanities project must require use of the Huntington’s collections.
Residence and funding
The fellowship is residential in San Marino, California. The advertised stipend should not be presented as including free accommodation. The planned Scholars Grove apartments are rental housing, not an additional complimentary fellowship benefit.
How to apply
Review the fellowship guidance and use the Huntington’s official application portal to register and complete the relevant application. Candidates must choose between applying for a long-term award and a short-term award; the two should not be treated as interchangeable applications.
Deadline
Applications close on 15 November 2026 at 23:59 PST. This article concerns the long-term fellowship options and their corresponding stipend levels, rather than the separate short-term scheme. Verify the current portal requirements before submitting; selection remains competitive.
