Africa No Filter has opened applications for the Voices for Climate Justice initiative, a 12-month storytelling programme supporting African journalists, content creators, podcasters, vloggers, muralists and data visualizers who want to change conversations around climate justice in Africa.
The initiative is delivered in partnership with Comic Relief and will support 15–20 selected storytellers through training, mentorship, content amplification and grants of up to US$4,000.

Africa No Filter is seeking creative storytellers who can produce impactful content through formats such as:
- Articles
- Videos
- Podcasts
- Vlogs
- Murals
- Data visualizations
- Digital storytelling projects
Selected participants will receive training in:
- Climate justice
- Data storytelling
- Narrative framing
They will also collaborate with researchers and partners to develop accurate and engaging stories based on research.

Who Can Apply?
The programme is open to:
- Journalists
- Content creators
- Podcasters
- Vloggers
- Muralists
- Data visualizers
Applicants must:
- Be aged 18 or above
- Have an active platform such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Snapchat, publication or data visualization portfolio
- Have maintained an active and engaged platform for more than one year
- Have at least 5,000 combined followers across social platforms (for content creators and data visualizers)
- Commit to producing climate justice-related content for at least six months
- Submit ideas focused on climate justice, gender, debt and fossil fuels in Africa
Story Topics Africa No Filter Wants to Support
Applicants should develop storytelling ideas showing how climate issues affect African communities, including:
Climate Finance and Debt
Stories exploring how climate funding approaches impact African countries and communities.
Gender and Climate Justice
Stories highlighting how climate change affects women and gender-marginalized communities.
Fossil Fuels and Communities
Stories examining the relationship between fossil fuel projects, environmental impacts and local communities.
Application Process
Step 1: Prepare Your Storytelling Pitch
Applicants must create either:
- A pitch deck of no more than 5 slides, or
- A video pitch of no more than 60 seconds
The idea should connect:
- Gender
- Debt
- Fossil fuels
- Climate justice in Africa
Step 2: Submit Online Application
Applicants must provide:
- Application form
- Links to social platforms or publications
- Description of target audience/community
Applications must be submitted in:
- English, or
- French
