UNDP has launched a funding call for locally led environmental justice initiatives in Papua New Guinea. Eligible not-for-profit organisations have until 9 October 2026 to submit proposals supporting youth participation, responsible business and human rights.
Funding and project duration
The available budget is US$20,000 in total, not US$20,000 per successful applicant. UNDP expects to make up to two low-value grants, depending on proposal quality and available funds. Projects must run for no more than three months.
Eligible organisations and priorities
Applicants must be legally registered not-for-profit organisations operating in Papua New Guinea, with relevant experience and implementation capacity. The call encourages youth-led and women-led groups, organisations representing Indigenous Peoples and persons with disabilities, and those serving rural or underrepresented communities.
Priorities include community environmental accountability, youth leadership, monitoring environmental issues, inclusive decision-making and dialogue with institutions and businesses.

Build a proposal that fits a short delivery period
Opportunities Feed proposal guidance: A three-month project needs a realistic scope. Explain one clearly defined local problem, the people affected and the activities your team can deliver within the available time. Avoid promising sweeping policy change without showing a credible path from activities to results.
Give young participants meaningful responsibilities in planning and delivery, rather than treating attendance as the only measure of participation. Describe how your organisation will document progress, manage costs and handle feedback. Where activities involve sensitive community information, explain practical safeguards and consent procedures.
Make the budget easy to follow: connect each cost to an activity and identify what will remain useful after the grant ends.
