Learning topics
The programme introduces personal safety considerations relevant to humanitarian work, including travel preparation, field communications, vulnerabilities and bias, and responses to security incidents. It offers structured introductory learning rather than a substitute for an employer’s location-specific security procedures.

Make the learning useful beyond the certificate
Opportunities Feed learning guidance: Set aside uninterrupted study time and keep a short list of concepts you want to discuss with a supervisor or security focal point. Treat the assessment as a check on understanding, not simply a badge to collect.
If you are preparing for your first humanitarian placement, ask the recruiting organisation what mandatory training applies to the specific role and duty station. A general online course cannot establish that a location is safe or replace a deployment briefing, safeguarding induction or emergency arrangements.
After completing the programme, describe it accurately on your CV under professional development. Include the course name, providers and completion date. Do not present a short assessment-based certificate as a professional security licence, a university qualification or a guarantee of employment.
