Background & Job Description
The Migration Health Nurse will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer.
The position is connected to accommodation services for individuals and families in vulnerable situations and involves supporting IOM’s migration health activities.
Tasks
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting nursing activities during migration health assessments.
- Checking vital signs, weight, height and visual acuity.
- Collecting blood, urine and sputum samples.
- Supporting imaging and laboratory testing.
- Administering vaccinations.
- Supporting tuberculosis management.
- Providing treatment and referrals.
- Supporting pre-departure medical procedures and movements.
- Maintaining accurate health documentation and records.
- Explaining the health assessment process, treatments and referrals to migrants and refugees.
- Conducting comprehensive history taking and biodata collection.
- Following health assessment checklists and standard operating procedures.
- Managing pharmacy stocks, medical kits and emergency supplies.
- Providing TB and HIV counselling where appropriate.
- Preparing administrative reports and programme updates.
- Supporting mobile missions and medical escort duties when required.
- Working with IOM departments, health providers, panel physicians, embassies, UN agencies and NGOs.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants must have either:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; or
- A Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.
A valid nursing licence to practise in Cyprus is also required.
Experience
The experience requirement depends on the nursing qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree: at least three years of relevant clinical experience.
- Diploma: at least five years of relevant clinical experience.
Applicants should also have strong technical nursing skills, including phlebotomy.
Experience or training in tuberculosis management, mass immunization, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage. Knowledge of clinical nursing, preventive care, disease control and infection prevention is also required.
Languages
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and spoken, is required.
Knowledge of another IOM official language is an advantage. Language proficiency may be assessed through written or oral assessments.
Additional Information
Computer literacy is required, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Organizational and communication skills are also required.
