Stellantis Turns to AI-Powered Robot Vision to Transform Automotive Manufacturing

Stellantis is using AI-powered robot vision technology to improve manufacturing efficiency at its Detroit assembly plant.

Working with French technology startup Inbolt, Stellantis equipped existing industrial robots with 3D cameras and artificial intelligence, allowing machines to recognize parts, calculate their position and adjust their movements instead of relying only on pre-programmed actions.

The technology has helped reduce production downtime and improve machine efficiency, contributing to the Detroit facility becoming one of Stellantis’ top-performing plants.

Inbolt’s technology can also be installed on older industrial robots, potentially allowing manufacturers to introduce AI capabilities without replacing entire fleets of existing equipment.

The startup has now deployed its technology on more than 200 robots worldwide and says machines using its system have reported up to 95% less downtime and 30% faster cycle times.

The development highlights how AI, robotics and automation are reshaping manufacturing and creating growing demand for professionals with skills in engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics and industrial technology.
