Benefits and support
Most internships provide a stipend based on academic level and session duration; some volunteer opportunities are identified in individual descriptions. NASA offers opportunities for both STEM and non-STEM majors.
Who can apply?
OSTEM applicants must be US citizens, at least 16 at application, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Eligible enrolment includes US-accredited technical schools, colleges and universities. Graduates may apply for placements in the three sessions immediately following graduation.

Preparing a focused application
Build a short project shortlist around skills you can demonstrate. For each assignment, identify a course, project or work example that relates to the duties. Explain your contribution precisely: what you built, analysed, wrote or tested. Check the location and practical costs before accepting an offer, and avoid treating a stipend as confirmation that every living expense is covered. Save the reference for each project so you can track applications separately.

Is OSTEM the same as Pathways?
No. OSTEM provides short-term project experience; Pathways has a different federal employment structure and application route.
