Background & Job Description
The National Government Liaison Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission of IOM Bangladesh.
The role focuses on maintaining relationships with government institutions and other stakeholders and helping IOM programmes navigate government procedures, permissions, official communications and coordination requirements.
The officer will also monitor government policies and priorities and provide relevant updates and advice to IOM management and programme teams.
Tasks
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining relationships with government officials and other national stakeholders.
- Supporting programme teams in obtaining government clearances and permissions.
- Facilitating meetings with senior government officials.
- Supporting workshops, trainings, meetings and other events.
- Monitoring changes in government policies and priorities.
- Advising on protocol and official communications.
- Supporting permits, licences and registrations.
- Facilitating duty and VAT exemptions and customs clearance where required.
- Maintaining updated records of government stakeholders.
- Supporting coordination with implementing partners.
- Preparing information packages and reports for relevant stakeholders.
- Participating in field visits, meetings and coordination forums.
- Providing management with updates and recommendations on issues affecting programme implementation.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants should have either:
- A Master’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Social Welfare, International Relations, Sociology or a related field; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in one of the relevant fields plus two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
Relevant experience includes:
- Liaison and protocol work with government entities.
- Working with government institutions.
- Understanding the structures and functions of national and international organizations.
Experience with international organizations, government or non-government institutions in multicultural environments is an advantage. Experience with UN agencies and organizing workshops or trainings is also considered an advantage.
Applicants should also demonstrate strong communication, analytical, drafting and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Languages
Fluency in English and Bengali, both written and oral, is required.
