KPMG Embark Scholars Internship: Eligibility for First-Generation and Community College Students

Programme guide checked 1 October 2026. KPMG’s US Embark Scholars programme is a paid, multi-year internship pathway with training and rotations across Audit, Tax and Advisory. It gives eligible students an introduction to different practices before a possible subsequent internship.

Eligibility matters

The official programme guide requires applicants to be first-generation or community-college students pursuing, or intending to pursue, an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, an equivalent subject or an IT-related field, with an interest in public accounting.

After completing Embark, candidates must have at least three additional semesters, or the quarter-system equivalent, remaining before completing their degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements. KPMG lists a GPA of 3.0 or above as preferred. Check the current vacancy for its full academic, location and employment-authorisation conditions.

What scholars do

The programme combines practice rotations, a professional network and a team capstone project. The experience is intended to help students explore service lines and develop professional skills. Eligibility for a following-summer internship is conditional; joining Embark does not guarantee a later position.

Check your study timeline first

Write down your expected degree completion date and, where relevant, the coursework still needed for CPA eligibility. Count the remaining academic terms from the end of the internship, not from the day you submit your application. If your university uses quarters or a nonstandard calendar, ask the recruiter how to present the equivalent accurately.

Prepare a clear application

Make your education and expected graduation date easy to find. Use examples showing how you solved a problem, organised work or contributed to a team. Experience does not have to come from an accounting office: a class project, part-time role or community activity can demonstrate care, responsibility and communication.

Explain why you want to explore public accounting and what you hope to learn from different practices. Avoid claiming technical experience you cannot discuss in detail.
