Updated 1 October 2026 — programme and roster guide. WIPO’s graduate internships carry a monthly stipend of CHF 2,170. This is support towards living costs, not a promise that all expenses are covered. Roster applications are considered as needs arise and do not guarantee a placement.

|---|---|
| Graduate category | Category II |
| Duration | 2–12 months, depending on placement |
| Monthly stipend | CHF 2,170 for the Geneva graduate category |

Eligibility and benefits
Category II covers recent master’s graduates within two years of graduation, graduate students who have completed coursework but not their thesis, and advanced-degree holders pursuing another degree. Professional English and/or French is required.
WIPO also provides medical and professional accident insurance, leave and assistance with Swiss visa formalities where necessary. Eligible candidates from developing, least-developed or transitioning countries who reside in their home country at recruitment may receive return-travel reimbursement up to CHF 1,500.
How the roster works
The roster is a candidate pool, not one specific vacancy. Prepare a complete online profile, questionnaire responses and motivation letter, stating your preferred work area. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and retained for one year.
Costs and conditions to understand
WIPO’s internship FAQ says accommodation is not supplied and remote internships are not offered. The stipend contributes towards living expenses; applicants should investigate housing and other costs before accepting an offer. Funding received from a university or another institution is deducted from the WIPO stipend.
Former WIPO interns cannot apply for another internship, even in a different category. An internship with another UN organisation does not itself disqualify a candidate. Completion does not guarantee employment: later jobs remain subject to normal recruitment.
Application checklist
- Use the official internship search linked below to find the roster currently accepting submissions.
- Read that notice’s category requirements, deadline and location terms.
- Prepare accurate education dates and examples relevant to your preferred work area.
- Complete every requested profile field and tailor the motivation letter to the work you can contribute.
- Keep the submission confirmation and monitor the contact details used in your application.
Our check of the official search page did not return an identifiable live opening. This guide therefore does not claim a specific roster is open today. If no suitable notice appears, check again later rather than using an expired application link.
Conclusion
The graduate internship can provide practical international experience, but applicants should separate three questions: whether they qualify, whether a roster is open, and whether a department selects them. Plan your budget around the actual offer, not the headline stipend alone.
