Build a practical engineering example
Our application advice is to choose a project you understand deeply enough to explain without a rehearsed script. A small, well-tested application can provide more convincing evidence than an ambitious project whose components you cannot describe.
Prepare a short account of the problem, your design choices and what you personally implemented. Explain how you handled an error, tested an assumption or improved reliability. If several people built the project, separate your contribution from the team’s overall output.
For a portfolio link, check that the README explains setup, dependencies and limitations. Remove secrets, private datasets and confidential material before sharing. A reviewer should not need access to your personal accounts to understand the work.
Check readiness before applying
Compare your actual graduation date and availability with the start options. Use the grading scale shown on your transcript rather than inventing a conversion. If a requirement is unclear, seek clarification through the employer’s recruitment contact before presenting yourself as eligible.
Prepare examples of collaboration as well as coding: discussing a trade-off, responding to review comments and documenting an unfamiliar system can all demonstrate how you work. Describe actions and evidence rather than relying on labels such as “excellent communicator”.
How to apply
