UNICEF Information Management Consultancy Offers Six Months of Remote Work With Travel

Current vacancy checked 3 October 2026. UNICEF’s Information Management consultancy supports the Afghanistan Polio Section for six months, with home-based work and travel. The assignment is for international applicants only, not a fully remote role with no travel obligation. Job 595890 closes 4 October 2026 at 11:55 p.m., Afghanistan Standard Time.

Assignment and eligibility

The official vacancy covers data-system integration, monitoring support and AI-assisted digitization during October 2026–March 2027. Payment depends on approved deliverables.

Applicants need a relevant master’s degree and at least five years of progressive information/data-management experience, including two years within a UN system or large-scale public-health programme. Fluent English, data integration, visualization, database and Python and/or Excel skills are important. Dari or Pashto is an asset.

Required application materials include an updated profile and CV, cover letter, a financial proposal in the linked template and a technical proposal. The advert also specifies a technical note of no more than three pages addressing system integration, AI-assisted digitization or health-programme visualization. Consult the full Terms of Reference and portal instructions to reconcile the complete submission requirements.

Make the technical approach specific

Our preparation advice is to define one problem clearly before proposing a collection of tools. Describe the input, expected output, quality checks and acceptance criteria. For a digitization example, explain how uncertain records would be flagged and reviewed rather than assuming every automated extraction is correct.

A strong technical note should make implementation understandable to a non-specialist. Include how you would test a small sample, identify failure cases and document the workflow so a programme team can maintain it. Distinguish tested methods from ideas you have not yet implemented.

Use public, anonymized or synthetic examples where appropriate. Never include confidential beneficiary information or proprietary datasets from another assignment merely to make an application look more impressive.

Plan for remote delivery and travel

Before applying, assess whether you can meet the schedule, communicate across time zones and undertake the required travel. Home-based work does not remove the need to clarify access, equipment, availability and handover arrangements.

Build the financial proposal from the actual deliverables and the template instructions. Identify assumptions rather than hiding them inside a single unexplained number. Check the terms governing travel costs, payment milestones and any other responsibilities before accepting a contract.

Apply through UNICEF

Use the official vacancy’s Apply now route and submit early enough to resolve document-upload problems. Retain a copy of your submitted materials and confirmation. This is a specialist, time-limited consultancy rather than a permanent staff job or a general graduate programme.
