Programme guide, checked 4 October 2026. The European Investment Bank’s Graduate Programme places graduates in junior roles within a business area, with tailored professional training and a salary. Applications depend on individual vacancies; this guide does not confirm a general open intake.
Duration, salary and development
The programme typically lasts one to two years, with possible extension up to four years. Participants learn from experienced colleagues and take on responsibilities within their team.
The published salary basis is the minimum of the grade 3 salary band. No fixed cash amount is quoted here; consult the role and offer for the applicable package. An extension is a possibility, not a guarantee.
Eligibility: check nationality as well as experience
Applicants need a university degree and less than two years of work experience since their latest graduation. Internships or traineeships shorter than nine months are excluded from that calculation under the programme guidance.
The EIB’s general staff nationality rule is, in principle, EU member-state nationality. Exceptions described for local-agent roles or particular traineeships should not be assumed to apply to a graduate vacancy.
English and French are the working languages. The individual job notice sets its language requirements; the EIB may require successful applicants to improve their second working language.
How to find and apply for roles
Open the official job portal from the programme page, then select “Traineeship & GRAD programmes” under job category. Read each graduate notice’s qualifications, deadline and documents. The general recruitment process includes a CV, cover letter and role-specific screening questions.
Read the official Graduate Programme guide and access the job portal.
Preparing a targeted application
Start by matching the vacancy’s responsibilities to evidence from your own experience. A finance assignment, coding project or research paper can help demonstrate relevant skills when you explain the task, your contribution and the result.
Do not submit the same cover letter unchanged to unrelated roles. Select examples that fit the specific team and be clear about what you still need to learn. Check all dates against your CV and keep a record of the vacancy you applied for, since different roles may close at different times.
These are editorial preparation suggestions, not additional EIB selection rules. Avoid assuming that the separate traineeship programme has the same eligibility or benefits.
