Current vacancy checked 1 November 2026: UNHCR’s PSP Digital and Comms Intern position, JR2669013, is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and explicitly not remote. The target start is 1 December 2026. Apply by 12 November 2026 according to the vacancy text; no closing time or timezone is stated.
Work and eligibility
The role supports digital donor recruitment, content, campaign assets, analytics and events. English and Malay are required. Applicants must be current students or graduates within two years of applying at an IAU/UNESCO-accredited institution, with at least two undergraduate years completed in a relevant or related-interest field. Applicants with a parent, child or sibling employed by UNHCR, including affiliates, are ineligible.
Office, digital/social-media and photo/video-editing skills are desirable. The schedule states 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm; confirm arrangements despite the notice’s mixed full/part-time wording.
Financial and practical conditions
Interns without outside financial support receive an allowance towards living costs; no amount is stated. Visa/residence costs remain the intern’s responsibility. COVID-19 vaccination evidence is required. Duration is not specified.
Application
Use UNHCR’s official vacancy and follow its document instructions.
Additional programme checks
UNHCR’s general internship policy also requires English at least at B2 level and limits cumulative internships, including previous placements, to eight months full-time or twelve months part-time. Interns arrange medical insurance covering their placement. All nationalities may apply to the programme, but that does not remove a particular role’s language, immigration or work-location requirements. Read UNHCR’s general internship conditions.
Preparing a focused application
The following is editorial advice rather than an employer checklist. Choose examples that show you can adapt information for a specific audience while maintaining accuracy. A social-media post, campaign report or event communication can be useful if you explain the objective and your individual contribution.
When discussing results, use a defined period and distinguish activity measures from outcomes. Publishing content is different from generating engagement, and engagement is different from a donation. Avoid attributing a wider team’s success entirely to your own work.
Do not include donor personal information or internal campaign data that you are not authorised to disclose. Where a sample is requested, use public work or a clearly labelled fictional demonstration. Describe language ability honestly, especially where the role requires communication in two languages.
Before accepting an offer
Ask for written confirmation of the placement length, daily schedule, work location, supervision and allowance arrangements. A contribution towards living costs is not a guarantee that every expense will be covered. Prepare your budget and check insurance and immigration requirements before making travel commitments.
Keep the vacancy reference with your application records and retain the submission confirmation. If the portal no longer accepts applications, do not assume that an older copy of the advertisement permits a late submission.
