EY US Career Residency Offers 8–12 Months of Paid Learning Beyond the Traditional Internship

Programme guide, checked 1 October 2026. EY US has introduced a paid Career Residency designed to extend professional learning beyond a traditional internship. The general announcement describes eight to twelve months and an inaugural January 2028 launch. Individual pathways have their own schedules, requirements and recruitment windows.

Employer EY US
Format Paid client experience, coaching and skills development
Announced duration 8–12 months; check the specific role
First announced start January 2028
Status Programme guide; published accounting application window ended 30 September

How the residency works

EY’s official announcement describes a blend of work experience and study, with remote and in-person activities. Participants develop professional judgement, communication, collaboration and technology skills while receiving coaching. Potential progression to an analyst position is not a guaranteed job offer.

A closer look at the tax pathway

The January 2028 tax listing describes three months of primarily in-person client work followed by a five-month virtual Skills Academy for residents who receive and accept a full-time analyst offer. The first phase involves 40-plus hours weekly; the academy specifies approximately 15–20 hours monthly. Tax also describes a separate three-month winter option.

That listing requires an expected accounting degree, at least a 3.0 GPA, a plan to meet CPA education requirements, and US work authorisation without current or future employer sponsorship. Its advertised hourly range is $37.50–$48.08, depending on factors including location. These are requirements and pay for that particular listing, not promises for every residency.

Is recruitment still open?

EY’s published recruitment calendar gives 30 September as the closing date for Accounting: 360 Careers and Assurance Advisory. As this guide is dated 1 October, readers should not assume that a listing remaining visible means the application window has been extended. Check the live vacancy and seek clarification from EY where the dates conflict.

EY asks candidates to submit no more than two applications within six months. Location preferences should match the vacancy. Assessments and interview arrangements depend on the role.

What to check before applying

  1. Read the exact service-line vacancy, start date and current application status.
  2. Compare the full-time work phase with your university timetable.
  3. Confirm location, commuting and work-authorisation requirements.
  4. Prepare a tailored résumé and accurate academic information.
  5. Use the employer’s application route and complete any requested assessment within its stated deadline.

Conclusion

The residency offers a longer connection between study and professional work, but its phases have different time commitments and progression conditions. Evaluate the specific vacancy rather than treating “8–12 months” as one uniform, full-time arrangement.
