Updated 1 October 2026. Applications for the Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholars 2027 cohort close on 6 October 2026 at 1:00 pm Pacific Time. This graduate-funding opportunity requires a separate application to an eligible Stanford degree programme: submitting the scholarship form alone does not secure university admission.

What the scholarship covers
Knight-Hennessy Scholars provides funding for up to three years for the graduate degree selected at admission. Support includes tuition and associated fees, a stipend for living and academic expenses, and an annual economy-class return trip to Stanford. New scholars also receive a one-time relocation stipend.
Supplementary enrichment funding may be available in the second and third years. For longer degrees, such as a PhD or MD, funding beyond the scholarship period follows the relevant department’s standard commitments. Applicants should therefore assess the funding arrangements for their whole degree, not assume every year is covered by KHS.
Who is eligible for the 2027 cohort?
Applicants generally need a first bachelor’s degree awarded in January 2020 or later. The military-service extension allows January 2018 or later. Current undergraduates must complete their first degree by September 2027. A later master’s qualification does not restart the first-degree eligibility period.
There are no nationality or academic-field quotas. However, admission to an eligible full-time Stanford graduate programme is essential. Programmes include qualifying master’s, doctoral and professional degrees; not every Stanford course or study route qualifies. Check the official eligibility rules before preparing an application. Limited routes also exist for deferred entrants and first-year Stanford PhD students.
Two applications, two deadlines
The KHS application deadline is 6 October 2026 at 1:00 pm Pacific Time. The separate graduate application must meet the earlier of the programme’s KHS-specific deadline or 1 December 2026. Some programmes have earlier requirements.
MBA applicants must meet Stanford’s Round 1 requirement. Do not assume that being able to submit the KHS form in October means the MBA admission route remains available. Consult the official programme-by-programme deadline guidance.
Documents and application process
- Confirm your first-degree date and the eligibility of your intended Stanford programme.
- Check both deadlines and the graduate department’s admission requirements.
- Prepare the KHS online application in English, including your résumé, transcripts, recommendations, short responses and essay. Test-score requirements depend on the degree programme.
- Submit the separate Stanford graduate application and the KHS application through their respective systems.
- Review submitted details and monitor official messages for next-stage instructions.
The KHS application has no application fee; the Stanford degree application may have a separate fee or waiver process. Read the official application guidance for the current requirements.
Before you submit
With the deadline approaching, build a checklist for each application rather than combining both into one task. Confirm that recommenders have the correct submission instructions, check file readability, and allow time for time-zone conversion and technical issues. Use specific examples to explain your leadership and contribution instead of simply listing achievements.
Conclusion
This is a substantial graduate-funding opportunity, but eligibility and Stanford admission are separate hurdles. Prioritise the deadline check, then complete both applications with accurate, consistent information.
