Who can qualify
UNICEF’s internship programme is for applicants aged at least 18 who are enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral programme, or who graduated within the previous two years. Applicants need proficiency in at least one UNICEF working language: English, French or Spanish. An office can require additional language skills. Family-relationship restrictions also apply.
Read the vacancy, not just the programme page
Internships generally run for six to 26 weeks, on a full-time or part-time basis. UNICEF provides a monthly stipend; additional travel and visa support may be available depending on funding. These general provisions do not mean every vacancy offers the same location, arrangement or assistance.
Use a five-point application screen
Record your graduation date, language evidence, available dates, relevant subject knowledge and any location restrictions. Then compare each item with the actual advert. Mark requirements as met, unclear or not met. Resolve unclear essentials before drafting your cover letter.
Choose two pieces of evidence that match the duties. For a research internship, a well-documented university project may explain your skills more clearly than a long list of unrelated courses. State your role, method and output without sharing confidential information.
Make your final check practical
Save the vacancy reference and closing date in your application tracker. Confirm which documents are requested and use readable filenames. Check that your availability agrees across your CV, form and letter. Submit through the official vacancy route and retain confirmation. An internship application is a competition for a specific assignment, not a general registration that guarantees placement.
