What WFP describes
WFP internships normally last two to eight months. The subsistence stipend depends on the duty station and is capped at US$1,000 per month. Medical and accident insurance is provided. Travel support is conditional, including provisions for nationals of developing economies studying in their home country; do not assume every applicant receives airfare.
Check eligibility before calculating costs
The programme generally targets university students or graduates within six months of graduation. Applicants must have completed at least two undergraduate years and attended classes in the previous 12 months. English and other vacancy-specific requirements matter. Separate monthly costs from arrival costs
Create two lists. Monthly costs can include rent, utilities, food, commuting, phone service and personal expenses. Arrival costs can include deposits, travel and temporary accommodation. Use current quotations for the actual duty station instead of converting a headline stipend into an assumed standard of living.
Add a column for who pays each item and when. A reimbursed expense can still require money upfront. Leave unknown amounts blank rather than treating them as covered, and ask the recruiting contact for clarification after an offer.
Questions worth asking
Confirm the stipend amount, payment timing, work location, insurance scope and any approved travel arrangements in writing. Ask which arrangements you must make yourself. Do not book non-refundable travel merely because you submitted an application. The useful comparison is the confirmed support package against your own realistic budget, not the word “paid” in a social post.
