Slovakia’s National Scholarship Programme is accepting applications for study and research stays during the summer semester of 2026–27. This is mobility funding for a defined stay at a Slovak host institution, rather than a scholarship for an entire degree.
Application essentials
| Status | Open; checked 1 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Deadline | 31 October 2026 at 16:00 CET |
| Host country | Slovakia |
| Audience | Eligible international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists |
| Start window | Students: 1 February–1 April 2027; other categories: 1 February–31 August 2027 |
Eligibility and financial support
Student applicants must study outside Slovakia and be at Master’s level or have completed at least 2.5 years in a relevant programme. PhD applicants must undertake their training outside Slovakia. A suitable host acceptance or invitation is required. Slovak citizens and applicants seeking support for a full Slovak degree are excluded.
Published monthly support is €620 for eligible university students and €1,025.50 for PhD students. Researcher, teacher and artist rates depend on qualifications and experience. Eligible students and PhD applicants can request a distance-based travel grant, paid at the end of the stay.
An additional document deadline matters
The current call requires online submission by the deadline and delivery of the original host acceptance/invitation letter to SAIA in Bratislava by noon on the third Slovak working day afterwards. Sending the letter by that date is not sufficient. The host letter must specify the stay dates.
Prepare a workable stay
Contact a suitable host early and agree on a realistic purpose for the visit. Your proposal should explain what you will accomplish during the available time and why that institution is necessary for the work.
Budget for costs before the first payment and for travel that may be reimbursed later. Ask your host about housing, access to facilities and arrival arrangements. A scholarship award should not be treated as automatic immigration approval.
Use the document checklist for your applicant category, since students, doctoral researchers and established academics have different requirements. Check dates and signatures across the proposal, host letter and online form.
