Spencer Internship Grants: US$8,000 for Employers Hosting Risk Management Interns

Spencer Educational Foundation is accepting employer applications for its US$8,000 Internship Grants. The funding helps create meaningful risk-management placements, and the application deadline is 15 October 2026.

Who applies? Employers through eligible practising risk managers. Students do not apply directly to Spencer for this grant; they apply to participating employers for internship positions.

Grant overview

Amount US$8,000
Eligible applicant location United States, Canada or Bermuda
Internship length At least eight weeks
Work focus Meaningful risk-management projects; administrative duties limited to 25% of time
Deadline 15 October 2026; submit early and check the portal’s Eastern Time cutoff

How the funding must be used

The entire award must support the intern’s experience, including pay and relevant learning activities. Recipients must confirm an intern within 90 days of approval notification, provide the required records and submit a final budget and report. Unused funds may need to be returned.

Build a useful placement proposal

Start with a project the intern can genuinely complete. Define a question, the information they will work with, the expected output and the person who will supervise them. A broad promise of “exposure to risk management” is harder to assess than a practical learning plan.

Set aside supervisor time before calculating the budget. An intern handling unfamiliar business information needs guidance, feedback and a clear route for raising questions. Plan access to systems and documents around the organisation’s confidentiality requirements.

Separate salary costs from optional learning expenses. If the proposal includes a conference, training course or professional event, explain how it connects to the internship’s objectives. Also decide how progress and learning will be documented during the placement.

Advice for students

Use the foundation’s recipient information to identify employers, then check each employer’s own recruitment process. A grant announcement is not a student offer and does not establish a universal salary, location or start date.

How employers can apply

Review Spencer’s current criteria and use the application link on its official grant page. Because the page’s midnight wording can be ambiguous, complete submission before the final day rather than relying on a last-minute interpretation.
