The World Cancer Research Fund INSPIRE Research Challenge 2026–27 is open for letters of intent.
What the grant supports
INSPIRE offers up to £75,000 for projects lasting up to 12 months. Justified direct research costs can include salaries, supplies and essential equipment. Overheads and training courses are excluded.
Eligibility
Researchers worldwide must have received their PhD or equivalent two to seven full-time-equivalent years ago, with permitted career-break adjustments. Applicants need a research contract at a university, medical school, hospital or research institute, conceptual independence and supervisor support. Current WCRF grant holders are excluded. Limits are one application per lead and three per institution.
Research fit
The 2026–27 call requires alignment with at least one of WCRF’s six priority areas and its cancer research remit. A broadly cancer-related topic alone is insufficient. Read the current guidance before developing the proposal.
Application and deadline
Submit the mandatory letter of intent through ProposalCentral by 13 November 2026, 5pm GMT. Allow departmental and finance signatories at least three working days to approve it before the deadline. Prepare the supervisor support and justified budget required by the guidance. Shortlisted applicants are invited to submit full applications.
